Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do you provide a listing of all the music you have?
A: Only by request. The reason that we do not automatically provide clients a complete music list is that most people will have the tendency to take a listing of thousands of titles, and check off the 100 or more songs that they like. This is a disservice both to you and your DJ. We ask couples to create a specific list of their favorite songs and try to target a number of 30 requests for a 5 hour reception. While your immediate reaction may be that 30 is a very small number, consider this : At a typical 5-hour reception, the most amount of time allotted for dance music is 3 hours at best. Most DJ's can play an average of 15 songs per hour. Thus, a total of roughly 45 songs after dinner. By targeting 30 specific songs, and allowing your DJ the remaining 15 songs to work into the program, you have a much better chance of making sure all your important songs are played. A separate listing in addition to the 30 dance songs may be requested for cocktail hour and dinner music.
Q: Do you provide a video of your work?
A: No. Does it make sense to you that someone who provides you with a video of their work would show you only the best clips, from the best weddings they have done? Our method is two fold:
First: An appointment can be made to allow a couple to meet one of our DJs to allow him to explain in detail his background, and specific talents.
Second: Many of our past clients have authorized us to have potential clients call them for a reference. We can give you a few names and numbers of Brides and Grooms that have used us in the past.
Q: Do you travel out of state?
A: Yes. While weddings in southern New Hampshire Rhode Island and Maine are common, we have also performed at weddings in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and even Florida. We are certainly open to discuss your plans no matter where they might take us. Obviously, travel fees and accommodations are required.
Q: Do you have experience playing music with an ethnic "flair"?
A: Yes. Many weddings that we do have one side of the family or another with some rich heritage and wish to express the music of their culture. In the Greater Boston area, the most common are families of Irish, Italian and Latin descent. DM Productions was founded in Watertown, where a large Greek and Armenian community exists. So from our earliest days we realized that it was important to maintain a library with a wide range of Ethnic selections. While we are strongest in the Irish, Italian, Latin, Greek and Armenian sounds, we have played with great success and have a limited library of Portuguese, Jewish, Polish, Albanian, Lebanese and most recently, German selections. We normally review the music with the families involved and determine how many songs and how much time allotted to each set of music. The result is always very rewarding.
Q: Are we required to feed a DJ?
A: While it is not required, it is always very much appreciated. We never felt it was necessary to put it in the contract as most couples do provide some type of meal. Most function facilities will provide what they call a "Vendor Meal" at a lower cost to you. Keep in mind that a typical 5 hour reception results in an 8 hour work day for our DJs. Thank You in advance for your consideration.
